Mt. Rinjani, Lombok
1992, Hiking & Camping, 4 days.
Mt. Rinjani experience was a discovery.
Mt. Rinjani was a semi-active volcano. The crater formed a volcanic lake. The lake grew pimple, a child volcanic mountain within the crater which was called "Sagara Anak" or a child mountain. The trek started in Senaru village, then the route climbed up to Rinjani's rim, hiked down to the lake in the crater, descended up the top, and completed down in Sembalun village.
Dad and I had planned the climbed when we met a Dutch couple on the local transport to Senaru village. They were heading the same way, so then we decided to climbed together. We hired porters because the Dutch's carried their washing-machine up to the mountain.
The unfortunate bad weather sadly prevented us to reach the highest peak of Rinjani. The fog was too thick to penetrate and it was too risky to pass the narrow ridge. Turning back from the peak was the worst feeling.
